The Boots
A bold, head-turning pair of vintage 1980s-era Larry Mahan cowgirl boots in cherry red leather with large white leather scrollwork inlays cascading down all four panels. These are the kind of boots that announce themselves the moment you walk into a room — unapologetically red, unapologetically loud, and unmistakably Larry Mahan.
The tall shafts are done in cherry red leather with dramatic white leather inlays in an ornamental scrollwork pattern on every panel. The design is symmetrical and flowing — large C-curves, spirals, and pointed fleur-de-lis shapes climb from the base of the shaft to the collar, creating an almost baroque or wrought-iron gate effect against the red background. A white leather diamond-point inlay sits centered at the top of the back panel between the pull tabs, anchoring the design. The scrollwork is bold and graphic — the white against red creates maximum contrast and visual impact from every angle.
The vamps are smooth cherry red leather with a pointed toe and clean lines, letting the shaft inlay work dominate. The proportions are classic 1980s Larry Mahan ladies’ styling: tall shafts, a slim silhouette, pointed toe, and a black stacked heel at a comfortable walking height.
Construction is solid: leather soles, black stacked heels with rubber caps, and cream leather lining throughout.
Larry Mahan
Larry Mahan was a six-time World All-Around Rodeo Champion who built one of the most recognizable Western fashion brands of the 1970s and 1980s. His boot line was known for bold colors, dramatic inlay work, and designs that pushed the boundaries of what a cowboy boot could be. The red-and-white scrollwork seen here is quintessential Mahan — a simple two-color palette executed with maximum visual drama.
Condition
These boots are in distressed vintage condition with character throughout. The cherry red leather shows fading in areas — particularly at the vamps, toe tips, and lower shaft — where the red has softened to a lighter, slightly washed-out tone with some areas showing through to the natural leather beneath. The white scrollwork inlays are fully intact and securely stitched on all panels with no peeling or lifting. The leather shows creasing, surface scratches, and the kind of wear marks that come from decades of life. The leather soles show moderate wear and the black stacked heels remain solid. These are not pristine boots — they’re lived-in, faded, and full of character. The inlay work is excellent, and the overall structure is sound. Priced accordingly for their distressed condition.
