The Boots
A beautiful pair of vintage M.L. Leddy’s boots showcasing an elegant climbing tulip vine inlay design in a timeless black, ivory, and cognac color scheme. From one of the most respected custom bootmaking houses in Texas history, these boots combine masterful hand-laid inlay work with the kind of quality construction that has made the Leddy name legendary for over a century.

The tall shafts are crafted from rich black leather, hand-inlaid with a graceful climbing vine of ivory/cream leather tulips and leaves that winds elegantly up both the front and back of each boot. The tulip-and-leaf cutwork is precise and dimensional — each blossom and leaf individually cut and set into the black leather, then outlined with fine gray stitching that defines every shape. The scalloped ivory leather collar at the top continues the two-tone interplay, and a thin cognac/rust accent piping runs down the front seam, tying in the warm tone of the vamps below.

The vamps are smooth cognac/saddle tan leather with a sharp pointed snip toe, creating a striking three-tone composition — black, ivory, and cognac — that’s both classic and eye-catching. The boots sit on a stacked leather heel at a flattering height. The interior is leather-lined and bears the M.L. Leddy’s markings.

M.L. Leddy’s: A Texas Institution
M.L. Leddy’s was founded in 1922 when Martin Luther Leddy began crafting custom boots and saddles, eventually establishing the business that became a cornerstone of the Fort Worth Stockyards and San Angelo. For over a century, the fourth-generation family business has built a reputation as one of the premier custom bootmakers in the American West — known for impeccable craftsmanship, premium leathers, and hand-laid inlay artistry exactly like the tulip design on this pair.

A pair of M.L. Leddy’s boots represents the gold standard of Texas bootmaking. Their inlay work in particular is prized by collectors, and finding a vintage pair with this level of hand-craftsmanship is a genuine treat.

Condition
These boots are in good vintage condition with honest wear. The black, ivory, and cognac leathers remain supple and the colors strong. All tulip and leaf inlays are securely attached and intact, with the gray stitching crisp throughout. The cognac vamps show creasing and light scuffing consistent with wear, and the pointed toes show some scuffing at the tips. The leather soles show moderate-to-heavy wear, and the stacked heels show scuffing at the base. The interior is clean with the Leddy’s markings present. These boots have been worn and enjoyed, and they carry the character and quality of a genuine Leddy’s commission.

Hand-tooled skull motifs cover the natural tan leather of these vintage Liberty Boot Co. mules. Black recessed details define the tooling, and a red braided whipstitch collar outlines the opening. This women’s 8.5 B pair has an open-back construction, snip toes and chunky stacked heels. The skull tooling remains crisp and the red collar secure, with scuffs at the toes and heels and previous sole wear.
