The Boots
A spectacular pair of Justin White Label bicentennial cowboy boots in blue-dyed walrus leather — made to commemorate America’s 200th birthday in 1976. These are a piece of American history on your feet. Bold, patriotic, and utterly unique, these boots represent Justin at their most ambitious and creative during one of the most celebratory moments in the nation’s history.

The full walrus vamps are dyed a striking electric blue-teal with the hide’s distinctive heavy grain pattern and natural creasing clearly visible — thick, rugged, and unmistakably walrus. The leather has a depth and character that no cowhide can replicate, with the natural striations and surface texture creating a marbled, almost oceanic appearance in the blue dye. The walrus wraps from the pointed toe up over the instep and around the heel counter, with jagged blue leather overlay work at the transition to the shaft creating a flame-like border.

The royal blue leather shafts carry the full bicentennial treatment. On the front panels, a circle of thirteen white leather star inlays surrounds an embroidered bald eagle in red, white, and blue — wings spread, talons extended, rendered in detailed needlework. The back panels feature the same circle of thirteen stars surrounding “1776” inlaid in red leather — the founding year of the republic. Additional white star inlays are scattered across the side panels. Red stitchwork in jagged lightning-bolt patterns runs the full height of all panels, and white piping traces the collar and side seams. The scalloped collar with its deep V-notch at front and back completes the patriotic silhouette.

Construction is top-tier Justin White Label: pointed toes, black stacked heels, leather soles, and tan leather lining throughout.

The Bicentennial
In 1976, America celebrated its 200th anniversary with a nationwide outpouring of patriotic expression. Bootmakers across Texas produced limited commemorative designs for the occasion, and Justin’s White Label bicentennial boots in walrus are among the most dramatic and collectible examples from that era. The combination of exotic walrus leather with full patriotic iconography — eagles, stars, and “1776” — makes these a genuine artifact of the American bicentennial celebration. Fifty years later, surviving pairs in good condition are increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors of both vintage boots and American memorabilia.

Condition
These boots are in good vintage condition for their fifty years of age. The blue-dyed walrus vamps show the natural heavy creasing and surface character inherent to walrus leather, with wear at the toe tips and the kind of patina that only develops over decades. The blue leather shafts show creasing from use but remain supple and structurally sound. All thirteen white star inlays are intact on both front and back panels. Both embroidered eagles are complete and undamaged. The “1776” inlay on the back panels is intact. The red lightning-bolt stitchwork is crisp throughout. The leather soles show moderate wear and the black stacked heels remain solid. A well-worn pair with all the patriotic detail work in excellent condition — these boots have been loved for half a century.
