Vintage 1940s Justin Two-Tone Cowboy Boots – Men’s Size 9 D

Born from the Fort Worth, Texas factory that had already earned the title “Standard of the West,” this striking pair of 1940s Justin cowboy boots embodies the rugged elegance of mid-century American craftsmanship. The two-tone design pairs a black leather lower foot and vamp with warm cognac-brown upper shafts — a bold color-blocking style that gained popularity during the era when Hollywood westerns were transforming the cowboy boot from ranch necessity into a national fashion statement.

By the 1940s, the Justin Boot Company had been perfecting its craft for over six decades. H.J. Justin first set up shop along the Chisholm Trail in 1879, stitching boots by hand for cattlemen driving herds north through Spanish Fort, Texas. By the time this pair rolled off the line, the company had long since relocated to Fort Worth and was operating under the leadership of John Justin Jr., who would modernize the brand’s marketing and expand its reach well beyond the Southwest.

The elaborate rows of stitching that cascade across the tall shafts trace their origins to a purely functional technique — H.J. Justin originally sewed rows of thread across boot tops to stiffen the leather — but by the 1940s, that stitching had evolved into the sweeping, decorative patterns seen here. The original dark green cloth pull tabs remain intact, reading “Justin Boots / Since 1879 / Ft. Worth, Texas” in gold lettering, a hallmark detail that collectors use to authenticate and date vintage Justin pairs. A classic round toe and low stacked heel complete the traditional silhouette.

These boots have been well worn and carry the honest patina of decades of use — the black leather is supple and creased, and the shafts show the natural aging of quality hide. Sized at a men’s 9 D, they stand as a tangible artifact of the era when Fort Worth was the undisputed capital of western boot manufacturing and the Justin name was synonymous with the American West itself.
