The Boots
A gorgeous, genuine pair of 1940s western boots — the real deal from the golden age of American bootmaking. Built in rich russet-brown leather with striking cream/ivory inlays, an elaborate hand-cut “peacock” oak-leaf inlay pattern, punched ventilation holes, red side piping, and a dramatic needle toe, these boots are wearable history. While the maker’s mark is unmarked, the construction, materials, and design are textbook 1940s — the kind of elaborate inlay artistry that defined the era’s finest boots.

The tall stovepipe shafts are the showpiece. Cream/ivory leather inlays sweep up each side in flowing, leaf-and-scroll “peacock” motifs, set against the warm brown leather and outlined with fine golden stitching that traces every curve. A row of small punched ventilation holes runs along the scalloped collar — a classic period detail — and crisp red leather piping accents the side seams. The pattern wraps fully around the boots, front and back, for a complete 360-degree presentation.

The vamps are smooth brown leather with elegant flame-and-wingtip toe stitching in golden thread, finished with the sharply pointed needle toe and tall stacked leather Cuban heel that are hallmarks of 1940s style. Inside, a flash of red leather lining peeks at the collar. The boots are pull-strap equipped and leather-lined throughout.

A Piece of the 1940s
The 1940s were the golden age of the decorated cowboy boot — an era when singing cowboys, Western films, and rodeo glamour drove demand for ever more elaborate inlay and stitch work. Boots like these, with their multi-color leather inlays, ventilation details, and needle toes, represent the pinnacle of that craftsmanship. Even unmarked, a surviving 1940s pair in this condition is a genuine find — increasingly scarce and prized by collectors of vintage Western Americana.

Condition
These boots are in good vintage condition with honest wear for their roughly 80 years of age. The brown leather is supple with a warm patina, showing creasing and surface wear consistent with use. The cream/ivory inlays remain intact and securely stitched, with the expected age-toning and a few handling marks on the light leather (see photos). The golden stitchwork is largely crisp throughout. As shown in the sole photos, the leather soles and stacked heels show significant honest wear from use, with the heel bases scuffed — but the boots remain solid and structurally sound. The red piping and red lining accents are present and vibrant. A beautifully preserved, genuinely worn-in piece of 1940s history.
