The Boots
Free-spirited 1970s elegance. These vintage Hondo cowgirl boots feature a warm caramel-tan leather body adorned with beautiful butterfly inlays — the iconic motif that defined the era of the boho cowgirl. With their extra-tall stovepipe shafts and graceful narrow profile, these boots have the kind of presence that turns a simple outfit into a statement.

The butterfly is the star of the show. At the upper shaft of each boot, a large, gorgeous butterfly spreads its wings in a layered combination of dark chocolate brown, navy blue, and golden snakeskin-print leather inlays, all outlined in delicate contrast stitching that captures the detail of the wings. The effect is dimensional and eye-catching — a true piece of wearable art. A matching smaller butterfly inlay adorns the vamp of each boot at the toe, tying the design together from top to bottom.

The tall caramel shafts are finished with elegant stitched scrollwork and a classic scalloped vamp collar. The rich tan leather has developed a warm, glowing patina over the decades — the kind of deep honeyed color that only quality leather achieves with age. The pointed toe and stacked Western heel complete the tall, leg-lengthening silhouette. The interior is fully leather-lined in pale cream.

Hondo Boots
Hondo Boots was a respected maker of quality Western footwear, handcrafted in Mexico with solid leather construction and bold, fashion-forward designs. During the 1970s, as the cowboy boot crossed over from country tradition into rock, folk, and mainstream fashion, Hondo was producing some of the most striking women’s boots on the market. Their butterfly design became one of the most iconic motifs of the decade — a symbol of freedom, transformation, and the free-spirited 1970s cowgirl aesthetic.

Hondo was known for generous shaft heights, quality leather, and beautiful multi-color inlay work — exactly the qualities that make these boots so desirable to vintage collectors today.

Condition
These boots are in very good vintage condition. The caramel tan leather is supple and rich with only light creasing and a beautiful aged patina throughout the tall shafts. All butterfly inlays — dark brown, navy, and gold — remain securely attached and vibrant. The contrast stitching is crisp and intact. Most notably, the leather soles show only light-to-moderate wear — these boots were worn gently and well cared for. The stacked heels are solid with intact heel caps. The interior lining is clean. Overall, these present beautifully and have plenty of life remaining.
