Vintage 1980s Larry Mahan Cowboy Boots — Desert Scene Inlay — Women’s Size 6 B
These are a fantastic pair of 1980s Larry Mahan cowboy boots in black leather featuring a full multicolor leather inlay scene depicting the American Southwest. Every angle of these boots tells a story — bucking broncs, longhorn skulls, saguaro cacti, and soaring birds, all rendered in individually cut and sewn leather pieces against the black background. This is wearable Western folk art from one of rodeo’s biggest names.
The upper is soft, supple black leather throughout, with the inlay work scattered across the full shaft on all four sides. The centerpiece on the front and back of each boot is a large white leather bucking bronc with rider — a bold silhouette that dominates the mid-shaft. Surrounding the bronc are smaller inlay elements: green saguaro cacti with desert ground beneath them, red and orange cacti at the lower shaft, gold/tan longhorn skull silhouettes, and tan birds in flight soaring near the collar. Each element is a separate piece of colored leather, cut to shape and inlaid flush into the black shaft — not embroidered, not painted, but true leather inlay craftsmanship.
The collar features a dramatic deep V-shaped scallop at the front and back, trimmed with a white leather overlay accented with perforated dot detailing along the edge — a decorative touch that frames the top of the boot and provides contrast against the black. Black leather pull tabs sit at the top on each side.
The toe is a pointed Western snip profile with subtle horizontal toe wrinkle stitching. The heel is a classic underslung Western walking heel in black, showing honest wear. The sole is leather with visible use — these boots were worn and loved. The black leather has developed a beautiful soft patina with natural creasing throughout the shaft, and the vamp shows the kind of character that only comes from real wear over decades.
Overall, these boots are in solid vintage condition. The inlay work is fully intact with no peeling or separation. The leather remains supple and structurally sound. Scuffing at the toe tips and heel wear are consistent with age and use.
