The Boots
A striking pair of vintage Dan Post boots featuring genuine caiman tail vamps in a rich black cherry finish, paired with deep cherry-black leather shafts and elaborate gray scroll stitchwork. Dark, dramatic, and full of dimensional texture, these are a true exotic statement boot — and in a hard-to-find extra-wide 10.5 EW.
The caiman tail is the showpiece. Unlike the flatter belly cut, the tail cut showcases the dramatic raised hornback scutes — rows of bold, bumpy, pyramid-like tiles that run down the vamp and create incredible three-dimensional texture and shine. The skin is finished in a gorgeous antiqued black cherry, where deep oxblood and burgundy tones flash through the high-gloss near-black surface depending on the light. The caiman extends across the vamps, over the instep, and around to the heel counter, wrapping the entire lower boot in premium exotic.
The tall shafts are crafted in matching black cherry leather and decorated with flowing gray scroll and flame stitchwork, with red piping at the collar and pull tabs. The round toe and stacked Western heel complete the silhouette. Inside, the boots are stamped “10½ EW · Style 339007” confirming the Dan Post pedigree and the extra-wide width, over a leather lining (with a flash of blue at the pull holes).
Dan Post & Caiman Tail
The Dan Post Boot Company built its reputation on quality exotic leather boots, and caiman is one of their signature offerings. Tail-cut caiman is especially prized — it’s harder to work with than the belly, and the raised scute pattern delivers far more drama and texture than standard cuts. Paired with the rich black cherry antiquing, this is an exotic boot that commands attention while remaining versatile enough to wear with jeans or a suit.
Condition
These boots are in good vintage condition with honest wear. The caiman tail vamps are intact with the bold scute pattern beautifully preserved and the black cherry finish glossy and rich; there is some honest wear and light marking at the toes consistent with use (see close-up photos). The black cherry leather shafts are supple with the gray scrollwork fully intact and crisp. As shown in the sole photos, the leather soles display honest wear from use but remain solid, and the stacked heels show wear with the branded rubber heel caps intact. The interior is clean with the Dan Post markings legible. Overall a well-cared-for pair with plenty of life left.
