The Boots
A commanding pair of vintage Justin White Label cowboy boots in genuine pre-ban sea turtle — one of the rarest and most coveted exotics in the entire boot world. The sea turtle vamps display the unmistakable cellular scute pattern in a rich cognac/mahogany finish: large, glossy, mosaic-like tiles that shift from deep brown to warm amber depending on how the light hits them. The turtle skin wraps generously from the sharp snip toe up over the instep and all the way around the heel counter — full coverage that showcases the exotic at its most dramatic.
Above the turtle, the tall dark chocolate leather shafts are decorated with bold gold lightning-bolt and starburst stitchwork — angular, radiating patterns that wrap 360 degrees with serious visual energy. The contrast between the warm cognac turtle and the dark chocolate shafts with gold stitching is striking and cohesive. The matching sea turtle pull straps at the collar are a premium detail — confirming this was built as a top-tier exotic boot from the ground up. The golden buttercup interior lining is the hallmark of Justin’s finest production.
Justin White Label — Why It Matters
The “White Label” designation denotes Justin’s premium production line — a step above their standard offerings in materials, construction, and finish. White Label boots were built with the finest exotic skins, premium leather linings, and meticulous attention to detail. Combined with the “Made in U.S.A.” stamp and the Fort Worth heritage (Justin was founded in 1879), a White Label exotic represents the brand at its absolute best.
Pre-Ban Sea Turtle — The Rarest of the Rare
Sea turtle sits at the very top of the exotic rarity hierarchy — alongside elephant and anteater — as one of the most restricted leathers on earth. Protected under CITES international wildlife trade laws for decades, genuine sea turtle leather can no longer be commercially produced or imported. Every pair in existence is pre-ban vintage stock, and the supply only shrinks as pairs are worn out, damaged, or retired to collections. Finding a pair in this condition, in a wearable wide width, is genuinely uncommon.
The Wide Width
At 10 EE, these offer a roomy, comfortable fit that wide-footed buyers rarely find in exotic boots. Most vintage exotics top out at D width — a double-E in pre-ban sea turtle is a genuine rarity within a rarity.
Condition
These boots are in good vintage condition with honest wear. The sea turtle vamps are intact with the cellular scute pattern well-defined and glossy; there is honest creasing across the instep and natural wear/scuffing at the toes consistent with use (see close-up photos). Some light surface crazing is visible at the toe tips — normal aging for turtle skin of this vintage. The dark chocolate leather shafts are supple with creasing and the gold stitchwork fully intact and crisp. The matching sea turtle pull straps are secure. As shown in the sole photos, the leather soles display moderate wear from use and the rubber heel caps show honest wear. The golden buttercup interior lining is clean. Overall a structurally sound pair with the turtle skin in solid shape and plenty of life left.
