The Boots
A breathtaking and exceptionally rare pair of vintage Lucchese boots combining genuine black lizard vamps with dramatic red rose inlays, green stem-and-leaf inlays, and red fleur-de-lis scrollwork on glossy black leather shafts — crowned by a bold red scalloped collar with black cutout accents. This is Lucchese at its most artistic and fearless: a boot that’s equal parts fine exotic craftsmanship and vivid, romantic statement-making. In over a decade of sourcing vintage cowboy boots, this design is one of the rarest and most visually powerful Lucchese pairs we’ve encountered.
The black lizard vamps display the classic tight, banded scale pattern of genuine lizard skin — glossy, dense, and unmistakably exotic — extending from the sharp snip toe up over the instep and wrapping around the heel counter. Above the lizard, the black leather shafts serve as the canvas for an extraordinary inlay composition: a large red leather rose in full bloom on the back of each boot, with a green leather stem climbing from the lizard vamp up through the shaft, flanked by green leaves and small red rosebud accents. At the collar, red fleur-de-lis and flame scrollwork inlays frame the top of each shaft, and the red scalloped collar with black cross/fleur cutouts finishes the design with a dramatic crown.
The color palette — vivid red, emerald green, and glossy black — is bold, romantic, and unforgettable. Every inlay element is hand-cut and individually stitched, representing hours of skilled artisan labor from Lucchese’s San Antonio workshop.
Lucchese & This Design
The Lucchese Boot Company was founded in San Antonio, Texas, in 1883, and for over 140 years the name has stood for the very finest in American bootmaking. This rose-and-lizard design represents one of their most elaborate and rarely seen women’s creations — combining a premium exotic skin (genuine lizard) with complex multi-color inlay work that goes far beyond their standard production. Finding this specific design in the secondary market is genuinely uncommon; most Lucchese collectors have never seen one in person.
Condition
These boots are in good vintage condition with honest wear that speaks to a life well-loved. The black lizard vamps are intact with the banded scale pattern well-defined and glossy; there is honest wear and light scuffing at the toes consistent with use. The black leather shafts show creasing and the soft, broken-in character of well-worn leather — the red rose inlays, green stems, and red scrollwork are all intact, vibrant, and securely stitched with no lifting or separation. The red scalloped collar is clean and the black cutout accents are secure. As shown in the sole photos, the leather soles display moderate-to-heavy wear from use and the stacked heels show honest wear. The tan leather interior lining is clean. Overall a structurally sound pair with all inlay work beautifully preserved — the design elements that make these special are in excellent shape.
