Vintage Tony Lama El Rey Pre-Ban Anteater Cowboy Boots — Men’s 10 D
From Tony Lama’s top-tier El Rey collection, these vintage pre-ban anteater boots are a serious collector’s find. The full anteater vamps display the leather’s signature diamond-scale pattern in a rich cognac brown, with deep natural variation and a glossy finish that only genuine anteater hide can produce. The scales are large, raised, and beautifully defined from toe to heel counter — unmistakably the real thing.
The chocolate leather shafts carry elaborate multi-row fancy stitching in cream and olive tones, with bold sweeping curves on the front and back panels and a striking chevron pattern at the rear. Pull tabs are finished with a diamond-stitched detail at the top. The overall effect is refined but commanding — exactly what the El Rey line was designed to be.
Construction is classic Tony Lama: leather soles, stacked leather heels with rubber heel caps, leather lining throughout, and a pointed toe profile. The original El Rey label is still intact inside the shaft. These boots have been worn but remain in solid vintage condition with plenty of life left in the soles and heels.
Anteater leather has been banned from commercial trade for decades. These boots represent a material that can never be used again in new production — once they’re gone from the secondary market, that’s it. The El Rey designation placed these at the very top of Tony Lama’s catalog when they were made, and they’ve only become rarer with time.
