The Boots
A handsome pair of vintage Tony Lama cowboy boots in genuine python with chocolate brown leather shafts and scalloped tops — a warm, two-tone combination that balances exotic texture with classic Western elegance. The python leather is bold and unmistakable, while the elaborate shaft stitchwork shows the kind of detail that made Tony Lama one of the most respected names in El Paso bootmaking.
The full python vamps are done in a rich cognac/burnt orange coloration with large, clearly defined overlapping scales that catch light beautifully. The scales graduate in size from smaller, tighter scales at the toe to larger, broader scales across the instep and up over the ankle — creating a natural textural progression that’s characteristic of quality python. The hide wraps generously from the pointed toe up past the ankle and around the heel counter, with the warm burnt orange tone deepening slightly at the scale edges for added depth and dimension. The python leather has developed a beautiful patina over the years, with the scales taking on a warm, burnished quality that only improves with age.
The tall chocolate brown leather shafts are loaded with Tony Lama’s signature elaborate stitchwork — large fan medallions with radiating lines dominate the center of each panel, surrounded by flowing scroll and feather motifs that fill the entire shaft from the python transition line up to the scalloped collar. The stitching is done in tonal brown and tan thread, creating a layered, dimensional effect against the darker brown leather. These boots are in very good vintage condition. The cognac/burnt orange python vamps show minimal wear — the scales are intact, securely attached, and glossy across the entire vamp with no significant lifting or damage. There is light wear at the toe tips consistent with careful use. The chocolate brown leather shafts show light creasing but remain supple and well-maintained with all stitchwork fully intact and crisp. The scalloped collar edges are clean and undamaged. The leather soles show moderate wear with good life remaining, and the stacked heels with rubber caps are in solid shape. Overall, this is a well-cared-for pair that presents beautifully — the python is in excellent shape and the shaft leather has aged gracefully.
